I was on way to my car walking by the Jack n a Box on Ivar late Saturday/early Sunday just passed 2AM when I heard 5 shots go off. I got a little excited having not shot a dead guy in two years and with a barrowed Canon 50D figured it would be nice to see how it does at high ISO's. I missed Steve Angello at Avalon's afterhours for this oh well. The hospitality is non existants after 2AM there and I had morning plans so I went to check it out.
I'm not trying to be insensitive to the situation, all was well and it was just a leg wound, a few stitches at best. These things don't usually happen without provocation and could all be avoided better if venues and their promoters were held liable for the audience that that they bring. I post this to show what happens in hopes that things change. If the LAPD Vice department started keeping stats on these incidents including what venue, what promoter etc. you could build a case to for this and develop a pattern. Fines, bill for the man hours by police/fire departments etc. Close them down early before last call to vacate premises sooner to ease traffic later. Impeding traffic tickets of those 'parkin lot pimpin' on the street. At some point these venues will realize it is not worth the hassle.
The Sunset Groups Cabana Club has hosted some pretty ghetto stuff thruout their venues so this is no surprise. As a matter a fact I was once hired here and there was a shooting then. I told my client an urban promoter to just pay me later and went out the back door on the patio.
